Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Services (CDPAS)

CDPAS gives you the power to choose your own caregiver. Instead of having an aide assigned by an agency, you (or a designated representative acting on your behalf) recruit, train, schedule, and manage your own personal assistant. That caregiver can be someone you already know and trust — a friend, a family member, or a neighbor.

CDPAS is a voluntary benefit available to all Elderplan Plus Long-Term Care (HMO-POS D-SNP) members who are eligible and able to manage their own care. If you can’t self-direct on your own, a responsible adult — known as your designated representative — can take on these responsibilities for you.

Who Can Be Your CDPAS Caregiver?

A CDPAS personal aide can be a friend, family member, or someone you choose. However, your CDPAS aide cannot be:

  • Someone legally responsible for you
  • Your spouse

Who might choose CDPAS:

  • You want the comfort and trust of care from someone you already know
  • You have a specific schedule or set of tasks you want to manage yourself
  • You prefer flexibility and continuity over the structure of a traditional agency model
